Programs and Services
Every three days, on average, someone in the Yakima Valley relies on local Red Cross volunteers when a disaster strikes their life. Whether it affects one person or a hundred, these trained volunteers are ready, willing and able to help families and individuals who suffer loss from a home fire, flash flood, wildfire or any other disaster.
The Red Cross is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and our volunteers respond any time of the day or night to assess needs and provide immediate emergency assistance. From food, shelter, and clothing to emotional support, assistance in the replacement of health-related items, and case management, all disaster recovery assistance for individuals and families is free of charge thanks to the generous donations of our local community.
Besides disaster services, the following programs are also available at the Yakima Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross:
-
Services to the Armed Forces
facilitate emergency communications between military personnel and their families
-
Health & Safety Services
provide first aid, CPR, AED, swimming, babysitter preparedness and other classes
-
Workplace Safety
-
Blood Services
-
International Services
when normal communication systems break down, or when people are separated by war, natural disaster, civil strife, and other catastrophes, Red Cross chapters help in reuniting families and reestablishing contact
-
Volunteer Opportunities
volunteers work in disaster situations, drive Red Cross vehicles, teach community service courses in health maintenance and accident prevention and perform a myriad of other services, depending on the needs of our community
